Our Holistic Philosophy
At Mindful Paws, we believe in a holistic approach beyond traditional veterinary care, focusing on your furry family member’s physical, emotional, and mental aspects. We are also a mobile clinic that meets our clients in their homes.
Our philosophy is rooted in the understanding that true wellness extends beyond physical health. We emphasize a holistic approach that is gentle, minimally invasive, and integrates the emotional and mental aspects of your pet’s well-being. This approach allows us to go beyond symptom management and work towards a comprehensive understanding of your pet’s health.

Meet Our Veterinarian
Dr. Shuko Yamada
Dr. Shuko Yamada has a rich and diverse background in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, she relocated to San Jose, CA, in 1990 due to her father’s business. In 1996, she graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, laying the foundation for her journey into the field.
Dr. Yamada’s passion for animals and conservation led her to pursue a DVM degree at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University, which she successfully obtained in 2001. During her veterinary studies, she embarked on two trips to Uganda and Kenya, where she actively engaged in wildlife conservation efforts. Notably, she volunteered at a Chimpanzee sanctuary in Uganda and conducted crucial research on antibiotic resistance in the gorilla population.
In 2018, she underwent training in Pranic Healing at Pranic Healing of San Diego in Encinitas and is currently training under Nancy Rebecca in Intuitive Mind techniques.
Thank you for your kind words
Your kind words mean the world to us, and we’re so thankful that you’ve taken the time to provide us with feedback.
When I met Dr. Yamada, Keiko was 10 years old and had a TPLO on one knee, torn the cruciate on the other, and suffered from horrible allergies manifesting in many skin issues. She was on 4 different medications for all of her issues. After implementing the food and supplements that Dr Yamada recommended, and adding regular acupuncture sessions, Keiko is a happy 11yr old Akita taking no meds and skin has cleared up! I am forever grateful. Thank you Dr Yamada!
